Querciabella "Batàr" Toscana IGT

Batàr enjoys the cult following of an iconic wine. Reminiscent of Grand Cru Burgundy, yet with an unmistakable Tuscan authenticity, it is widely recognised as one of Italy’s greatest white wines. The combination of meticulously selected grapes of Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco, a careful micro-vinification regime and maturation in barrel lead to a wine of layered complexity that not only defies age but improves over time. Organically farmed since the wine’s first vintage in 1988 and biodynamic since 2000. The unique Galestro soil that is typical of Chianti Classico’s best vineyards gives Batàr its vitality and classic minerality. The Pinot Bianco and Chardonnay grapes are harvested by hand and processed through micro-vinification to allow the individual lots to develop their best expression. Batàr spends extended time on lees in premium French barriques. Once élevage is complete, only the best lots are selected through extensive sampling and blended in cement tanks. Further ageing in bottle finally puts the seal on the rich texture that defines the wine’s mouthfeel. Gentler lees contact and reduced reliance on new oak have defined a distinct freshness and brought to the fore citrus and exotic fruit, with creamy notes now providing a beguiling background. No animal products or byproducts are used in the production of this wine, making it suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
